Communication Rack Mount Server Overview
Kontron's Communications
Rack Mount Servers (CRMS) are ideally suited for telco and data network applications with 1U and 2U offerings in ruggedized, short depth chassis with long life availability.
Communications Rack Mount Servers include two product families, each available in both
1U and 2U chassis:
Carrier Grade Servers
Carrier Grade Servers are NEBS-3 and ETSI compliant standard
building blocks used in a variety of telecom applications and are
important for satisfying the demanding requirements and limited
space of the telecom central office. Typical applications include
unified messaging, SoIP, video on demand (VoD), call control,
media & signaling gateways, operational system support, SIP server,
IMS, mobile location service, media servers, subscriber billing,
and service provisioning.
Key Benefits:
- NEBS-3 / ETSI compliant
- Telco alarm management
- Long life support (3-5 years)
- Short depth (20”) ruggedized chassis
- Dual, redundant AC or DC power option
- Hardware RAID option
- Industry-leading performance/watt
IP Network Servers
IP Network Servers are optimized for high I/O throughput and compute
performance, serving as an excellent choice for data network
applications with large I/O requirements. These servers are ideal
for network security applications—including intrusion detection/prevention,
VPN/firewall, and unified thread management solutions.
They are also well-suited for enterprise application acceleration
and content caching, and are excellent platforms for running
Telco SoIP, including IMS, IPTV, video on demand (VoD), SIP application servers,
IP-PBX, and IP-PSTN gateways.
Key Benefits:
- Front and Rear I/O flexibility, with up to 8x Gb NICs in front
- “Appliance” look and feel
- Long life support (3-5 years)
- Short depth (20”-24”) ruggedized chassis
- Dual, redundant AC or DC power option
- Hardware RAID option (2U only)
- Industry-leading performance/watt
CRMS Technology Highlights
Kontron's Communication Rack Mount Servers carry many differentiated benefits that set them apart from standard enterprise servers, making them the platform of choice for telco and data network applications.
Long Life Availability
- All CRMS technology carries a lifecycle of 3 to 5 years, enabling longer product availability and support to customers
- Provides customers more time to scale operations, minimizes number of products to manage, and reduces cost of product transitions and validation cycles.
Ruggedized Design
- Kontron Carrier Grade Servers are designed to meet NEBS-3 and ETSI compliancy requirements and are tested by an accredited NEBS lab.
- NEBS/ETSI reports & test results are available to customers, enabling customers to leverage these results to minimize their own testing.
- Kontron IP Network Servers carry much of the same ruggedness and reliability of the carrier grade servers.
Short Chassis Depth
- All Carrier Grade (NEBS) servers are built to a 20” chassis depth, meeting the requirements of many Telco rack environments
- Enables greater flexibility of installation into either new or legacy rack environments along with maximum server density.
Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS)
- Redundant, hot-swap capability of power supplies, fans, and disk drives
- Vibration reduction technology for improved hard disk drive reliability
- Remote system management; on-board monitoring of temperature and voltages
AC or DC Power
- All of Kontron’s CRMS systems support both AC and DC redundant & hot-swap power supplies.
- Redundant/hot-swap DC power provides greater power efficiency, increases overall MTBF, and enables system repair without costly downtime.
Front I/O
- Optional support of front I/O in many of Kontron’s IP Network Servers (4 or 8 front NIC ports)
- Ideal for Intrusion Prevention and Detection systems, Firewalls, VPN systems, Access and Media Gateways, Voice and Unified Communications, Content Delivery, DNS servers.
